Add users

If you are the Owner or an Admin in a Padlet for Schools account, you should have access to the Members page from your dashboard. Click on the Settings cog icon at the top of the dashboard > click your School name (at the top), click Members (on the left).

Add users to your account in one of the following ways:

  • Share an invite link
  • Add individuals manually (via email)
  • Upload using a CSV file
  • Domain approval (only for accounts that already have approved domains)
By default, users with a Teacher role can add members to the Padlet for Schools account.

*Owners/Admins: If you do not want teachers to add members, you can adjust this permission within the Settings. Learn more.

Sending out an invite link is the most convenient way to get people to join your organization. With links, you can add people without assigning usernames and passwords or filling out a spreadsheet. This is especially useful when inviting users in bulk with assigned user roles.

Owners and Admins can share invite links by performing the following steps:

  1. Click the Settings cog icon at the top of the dashboard > select your School name from the top > Members
  2. Click Add members
  3. Select Invite links
  4. Click Enable link next to the role you want to invite for. Then, click Copy.
  5. Paste the link into an email (or whichever form of communication you prefer) and share it with those you wish to invite!

Users without an existing Padlet account will be added to the Padlet for Schools account once they have accepted their invitation. Their user role is assigned based on the invite link that was sent to them.

Invite links do not expire but account owners have the option to disable invite link sharing and reset the URLs to control the registration to the Padlet for Schools account.

Once members have been added, we recommend disabling the Invite link to control additional members being added without permission. You can always re-enable the Invite link, if needed.

*Do note - once a link is disabled it is no longer active. When you click Enable link again, it will be an entirely new link.
Cancel / Resend invites

Sometimes invited users need a little nudge to remember to accept their invitation to join your school. Reminder emails are already sent to users that have been invited to the account but have not yet accepted their spot. However, if you'd like to go ahead and resend the invite yourself, you can!

From the Members page, check the box next to the user with the pending invite and click Resend invite (at the top).

Cancel an invitation following the same steps, but choose Remove invite instead.

Add a single user

  1. Click the Settings cog icon at the top of the dashboard > select your School name from the top > Members
  2. Click Add members
  3. Select Add emails
  4. Type the email address in the field provided and click the drop-down menu to select what the new user's role will be
  5. Click the pink, Add button
Click + Add email to add additional members at the same time.

Users will be sent an email with a link to sign up. They will be added to the school account once they accept their invitation.

Add multiple users

Add multiple users with a CSV file.

  1. Make a copy of this sample csv and add the users' email addresses and a valid role type: Admin, Teacher or Student
To add users without an email address, contact Padlet Support!
  1. Download as a .csv file
  2. Open the file with a text editor (such as Notepad or TextEdit) or Microsoft Excel and add rows for all users
  3. Copy the content
Note: If you are using Microsoft Excel, save the file and open it in a text editor to ensure that the values are comma-separated before copying the content.
  1. Click the Settings cog icon at the top of the dashboard > click on the School name at the top > Members
  2. Click Add members > Upload CSV
  3. Click Upload to attach your CSV file
Be sure to check for duplicates before uploading to avoid errors.

Users will be sent an email with a link to sign up. They will be added to the school account once they accept their invitation.

To view your list of users in alphabetical order - the Owner (or Admin) within the Padlet for Schools account can go to the Analytics page.

Domain approval

Approved domains let verified users with a matching school email (like @hogwarts.edu) join your Padlet for Schools account automatically when they log in.

Approved domains are only available for school accounts that already have them. Accounts without an approved domain can't add one, and new accounts won't see the option. If your account already has approved domains, you'll still see the 'Approved domains' section on your Access page.

Verified users with emails that match your approved domains are added to the School account when they log in on your organization's login page (i.e. padlet.com/hogwartsschoolofmagic). Users who haven't verified their account aren't added automatically.

To get your domain approved, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Settings cog icon at the top of the dashboard
  2. Click the School name at the top > Access
  3. Scroll down to the 'Approved domains' section and click Add new domain
  4. Enter the domain for approval (the part of your email that is after the @ symbol)
  5. Select the role that these users will be assigned
  6. Submit your domain

Our team will review the submission and follow up with an email to let you know the status of your request.

Only verified users are added to your school account automatically. Users who sign up with an email and password need to verify their email before they're added.

Edit user information

Once a user is added, Owners and Admins can edit members' names, usernames, avatars, and roles within the account.

‼️ Users with a Student role can no longer edit/update their own user information. The Owner/Admin of the school account must make these changes for them following the steps below. ‼️

From the Members page, check the box next to the user's name. At the top, click View info at the top of the page.

This will open the User Info panel. View the user's profile page or make your updates, as needed. Don't forget to hit Save!

To reset the password for a user, click View info > Send reset link.
You can also see the date the user joined your account and when their last activity was.

Deactivate users

When a student or teacher leaves, the account owner may deactivate their user accounts. The user will no longer have access to the school account but can be reactivated, if needed. All padlets associated with a deactivated user are still viewable by members of the school.

Not sure which teachers are still contributing? Download your inactive teacher list from the Overview tab on the Analytics page. Inactive teachers haven't contributed in the selected period, but unlike deactivated members, they can still log in.

Deactivate a single user

Deactivating a single user can also be done from the User Info panel by checking the box ✔️ next to the user's name in the Members list > View info > Deactivate account.

Search users

To search for users within the Members page - Use the search box at the top of the page. After entering their name, username, email address or role, the page will update in real time with your results.

A student signed up but isn't showing in our Padlet for Schools account. Why?
To keep school accounts secure, Padlet only adds people automatically once their account is verified. If your account has approved domains, verified users with a matching email are added when they log in on your school's login page (for example, padlet.com/yourschool). Users who signed up with an email and password need to verify their email first.

If your students used to join just by opening one of your school's padlets, they may now need to log in on your school's login page first.

To bring students in right away, share an invite link for the Student role, add them by email, or upload a CSV file.
I don't see Approved domains in my settings anymore.
Approved domains are only available for school accounts that already have them. Accounts without an approved domain can't add one, and new accounts won't see the option. If your account already had approved domains, you'll still see the 'Approved domains' section on your Access page.

To add new members, share an invite link, add them by email, or upload a CSV file.
How do I add students who haven't verified their email?
Share an invite link for the Student role (see 'Share an invite link' above). Users without an existing Padlet account are added to your school account once they accept the invitation, and their role comes from the link you sent.

Students without an email address can be added by contacting Padlet Support.
