Create your own template
Updated 14 hours ago by Rana WildsAny board can be saved as a Template so you can reuse its layout, posts, and wallpaper whenever you need it. This article covers how to create, find, share and use Templates.
What you'll see on the +Make page
After clicking +Make, Templates are organized into three categories:
- AI recipes (AI-guided templates that help you build a board step-by-step)
- Your templates (Templates you've created or that have been shared with you)
- Recipes (Pre-made templates from Padlet's Gallery, ready to use as-is)
Create a template
- Open any board (new or existing)
- Click the three-dot ellipsis button (...) at the top of the page to open the Additional options panel
- Select Mark as template

Your board will now display a Template tag next to the title. It will also be labeled on your dashboard.

Use a Template to create a new board
There are two ways to create a new board from a Template:
From the +Make page (recommended)
- Go to your dashboard and click +Make
- Under Your templates, select the Template you want to use
- A new board is created with all posts and wallpaper copied from the Template. The title will include the current date. Feel free to rename it from the Settings cog icon.

From the Made by me folder (via Remake)
Opening a Template from your Made by me folder opens the original. It does not create a new copy. To create a new board from here, use the Remake feature:
- Open the Template from Made by me
- Click the Remake button at the top
- Check the boxes for everything you'd like to copy, then confirm
For more details, see this article.

Share Templates with your team or school
If you are part of a Team, Classroom, or Padlet for Schools account and want others to access your Template from the +Make page:
- Open the Template and go to the Share menu
- Set Permissions to Reader
- Toggle 'Show in Team/Classroom/School dashboard' to ON
When another member selects your Template from the +Make page, a Remake is automatically created for them. They can edit their copy without affecting your original.
Example: A school admin creates Templates for teachers. By setting Permissions to Reader and toggling 'Show in School dashboard' ON, every teacher sees those Templates on the +Make page and can start using them immediately.
Default privacy for new boards made from Templates
- Your own Templates: New boards will inherit your organization's default privacy settings.
- Gallery Templates (Recipes): New boards will copy the privacy and permissions from the original Gallery Template.
You can always change these afterward in the Share menu.
Where to find your Templates
Privacy setting | Where the Template shows up |
No Access / Private | Only the creator and added collaborators can see it (in Made by me and under Your Templates on the +Make page). |
Team/Classroom/School only (Show in dashboard OFF) | Creator and collaborators can see it in Made by me and on the +Make page. |
Team/Classroom/School only (Show in dashboard ON) | Everyone in the organization with Reader access sees it in Made by me and on the +Make page. In Classroom and School plans, student-created templates are only visible to the student creator and their collaborators on the +Make page. |
Secret / Password required / Login required | Only the creator and collaborators can see it (in Made by me and +Make). Others need a direct link. They can Bookmark it to save it for later. |
Public | Anyone with the link can view it. It won't appear in others' Made by me or +Make page, but will show in their Recents folder after they visit the board. |
