Connect Padlet to Brightspace LMS (for padlet.com accounts)
Setting up LMS integration for Brightspace
This article applies only to accounts that end in padlet.com.
Before you begin
For this integration, different steps apply depending on your role. Admins will complete a one-time setup to connect Padlet and Brightspace, while Teachers will add padlets to their courses once the connection is active.
What you need
Role | Requirements |
Admin | - Access to the Brightspace Admin dashboard - Access to the Padlet for Schools owner account (on padlet.com) - Ability to manage and install LTI apps in Brightspace |
Teacher | - Access to a course within Brightspace - Access to your school's Padlet for Schools domain (padlet.com) - Admins must have completed setup before you begin |
Once you have the correct access, follow the steps below for your role.
For Admins
Admins handle the one-time setup that connects Padlet to Brightspace through LTI. After this setup, Padlet will appear seamlessly in Brightspace, making it simple for teachers and students to collaborate without leaving the LMS.
- Retrieve Dynamic Registration Link
Login to your Padlet for Schools account with the Owner credentials. Then, access the Settings page by clicking on the Settings cog icon in the top-right corner > select the school account (at the top) > Connections > next to 'LTI Advantage Dynamic Registration Link,' select Generate > Copy.

This link authenticates Brightspace as an external tool for your Padlet domain.
- Register LTI Tool
From the Admin dashboard on Brightspace, open Admin Tools by clicking on the Settings cog icon (⚙️) > Manage Extensibility > LTI Advantage > Register Tool > Select Dynamic Registration.
Paste the link we've given you and select Configure Deployment.
Once done, click on Register. This creates the initial connection between Brightspace and Padlet.
- Enable deployment and configure tool settings
Click on the Padlet deployment under 'Tool' and toggle the 'Enable' button ON. Then, make sure to fill in the following information:
Name | Padlet (use a name that will help you easily identify it later) |
Extensions | Check the boxes next to the following:
![]() |
Security Settings* | User Information* (see note below) |
Send Institution Role | Check this box |
This ensures Brightspace can pass user roles, grades and context to Padlet.
- Update security settings
Go back to your Manage Extensibility page > LTI Advantage > click the deployment name > click on View Deployments at the bottom of the page. Then, click on the deployment name.
All fields should be auto-populated, but to confirm, the following fields should be checked:
Name | Padlet (use a name that will help you easily identify it later) |
Description | Use a description that will help you easily identify the tool |
Extensions |
|
Security Settings |
|
Click Save and Close.
These settings ensure user identity data can flow securely to Padlet.
- Assign org units
In the deployment, click Add Org Units. Then, select Every Org Unit under the Organization (or specific ones, as needed).

- Create Link for Deep Linking
From the External Learning Tools page, click View Links. Then, click on the Padlet tool, and fill in the fields.
Name | Padlet (use a name that will help you easily identify it later) |
URL | |
Type | Deep Linking Quicklink |
Click Save and Close.
- Create Link for Deep Linking Insert Stuff
From the same links page, click New Link. Now fill in the same fields as above but change the 'Type' to Deep Linking Insert Stuff. Then, Save and Close.
Insert stuff: Allows teachers to embed Padlet within Brightspace editors
- Create New LTI Link in Module
Navigate to your module and courses and click on Existing Activities > External Learning Tools > Create New LTI Link.

Insert a title for the new external learning tool activity. The activity link name should match the name of Padlet tool that the link will be associated with.
Insert https://padlet.com/api/hooks/library-lti/launch into the LTI URL text area.
Padlet is now available to be added in all of the courses that the deployment was shared with in step 3.
For Teachers
Once your admin has completed the setup, teachers can begin using Padlet directly in Brightspace.
- Create a Module/Sub-Module
Navigate to Content > Select a Module or Add a Module > Existing Activities > External Learning Tools. Select Padlet from the list.

- Select a padlet
A pop up will appear showing existing padlets within your Padlet for Schools account. You can use the search bar or filter by folder to find the one you need.
Select a padlet from the list and click Add. It will appear directly inside your module.

Adjust privacy or sharing options (if needed) by clicking the arrow button to navigate to the padlet, open the Share panel and make your updates.

- Configure student copy options (optional)
If you want each student to have their own version of a padlet, toggle 'Create a copy for each user' ON. Each student will get an individual padlet linked to the assignment, and you'll automatically be added as a collaborator.

Click Save. The padlet will now display directly within Brightspace for your students.
Teachers only need to follow these steps once the admin setup has been completed. If Padlet does not appear as an external tool, contact your Brightspace admin to confirm that the LTI setup and access permissions were completed.
Quick summary
In short:
- Admins (steps 1-8) connect and authorize Padlet in Brightspace (system-level setup)
- Teachers (steps 9-11) use padlet within courses (course-level usage)
