Integrating Padlet with Blackboard Ultra lets teachers and students open padlets directly inside their courses. This guide walks you through the setup as a Blackboard Admin, then shows how to add a padlet to a course.

Before you start: You'll need Admin access to Blackboard Ultra and a Padlet for Schools account.

For Admins

Part 1: Register Padlet as an LTI tool

  1. Log into Blackboard Ultra as an Admin.
  2. Click your profile icon, then click Admin.
  1. Under 'Integrations,' click LTI Tool Providers.

  1. Click Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool.
  2. In the 'Client ID' field, enter the following ID: 49389ab1-7837-4686-ab54-b253f240ca2c
  1. Click Submit.

Part 2: Configure institution policies

  1. On the Administrator Tools page, scroll down to 'Institution Policies.'
  1. Check the boxes next to Name and Email Address.
  2. (Optional): To enable role provisioning, check the box next to Role in Course, Name, and Email Address.
  3. (Optional): To enable grade passback, select Yes under 'Allow grade service access.'
  4. (Optional): To enable automatic user group provisioning, check the box for Role in Course and select Yes next to 'Allow Membership Service Access.'
  5. Click Submit.

Part 3: Create a placement

  1. Go back to LTI tool Providers and find 'Padlet LTI 1.3' in the list.
  2. Hover over 'Padlet LTI 1.3' and click the drop-down arrow.
  1. Click Manage Placements.
  2. Click Create Placement and fill in the following details:

  1. In your Padlet for Schools account, go to Settings >> select your school workspace from the top >> click Connections >> click Generate next to 'LTI link deployment token' >> Click Copy.
  1. Paste the token into Blackboard Ultra and click Submit.
Note: This step is only required during the inital setup.

For Teachers

Add a padlet to a course

  1. Open a course (or create one).
  2. Click Add Content, then select Content Market.
  1. Click Padlet LTI.
  2. Log into Padlet (if prompted). If everything is set up correctly, you'll see a list of your padlets.
  1. (Optional): Toggle on Create a copy for each user if you want each student to get their own version. Toggling the Create a copy for each user button ON ensures that each student gets their own copy, but it also means you won't see all students' posts in a single padlet. If you don't want to grade the padlet, toggle Create a gradebook entry off.
  2. (Optional): Toggle on Create a gradebook entry if you want the assignment graded. For grade passback, you can grade within Padlet itself by opening the padlet and clicking the three-dot ellipsis button (...) followed by Gradebook. From there you can toggle on Sync grades to LMS to push grades back to Blackboard Ultra. Read more about this here!
  3. When you're ready, select one of your padlets (or create one by clicking Make a padlet).

Your padlet is now embedded in your Blackboard Ultra course. Students and teachers can view and interact with it right from the course page!
