Add comments

Comments are great when you're looking for feedback and interaction on your board.

Allowing comments

To enable comments, open the Settings panel of your board by clicking the Settings cog icon (⚙️) and go to the Engagement options. Click Comments and toggle the button ON next to 'Allow new comments.'

When this feature is enabled, everyone will be able to comment in real time.

Select the attachment options to allow within your comments on this screen, too!

You can use lots of formatting options within a post and in the comments! Some of these options include bold, italics, strikethrough and inline code. You can also mention other users by tagging them using the @ sign! Learn more about the formatting options and shortcuts here.

How to comment

To comment on a post, simply click in the area below the post that says, 'Add comment.' If you do not see this option, the creator of the board has disabled this feature. You will need to contact the Owner/admin of the board to turn this feature on.

If the commenter is logged into their Padlet account, the commenter's name and profile icon will appear above every comment. Otherwise, they will be displayed as 'Anonymous.'

Please be sure to press Enter or click ➡ to save your comment. A timestamp should appear next to your name. No timestamp? Your comment has not been saved and will not be recoverable after exiting the board.

Hide comment attribution

Padlet allows you to control whether names appear with comments. Hiding comment attribution is useful for collecting anonymous feedback or encouraging participation!

When comment attribution is hidden, attribution will also be removed from all exports.

To hide comment authors' names, open the padlet and click on the Settings cog icon. Under the Engagement section, toggle the button OFF next to 'Commenter name and time.'

Image, audio and video comments

You don't have to stick to boring text comments. You can add images, gifs, videos and more! Click the (+) icon next to the 'Add comments' box and an attachment picker will appear!

Search the web or your device for the perfect photo or video, upload a selfie using the Camera option, record a video using the Video recorder, or create an AI-generated image with AI image! Commenting just became a lot more fun!

Make sure to press Enter or click ➡ to save your comment!
Try dragging and dropping your media comments onto the post for an even easier way to add your comment!
All comments (text, audio, video, etc.) are moderated by Safety Net.

Disable comment attachment options

If you prefer to keep comments simple, you can disable the different attachment options. Customize what your collaborators can choose from!

Click on the Settings cog icon (⚙️) on your padlet > Engagement > Comments > toggle the buttons ON/OFF to customize to your liking.

Editing comments

Comments can be edited or deleted by the commenter AND by the creator or admins of the board. To edit a comment, click the vertical three-dot ellipsis button (...) on the right side of the comment. From the menu, you can choose Edit comment or Delete comment. 

FAQs

Why are my comments anonymous?
Comments will be recorded as anonymous if you are not logged into your account before commenting. Make sure you are logged in before commenting if you want your name to be recorded as the contributor.

If you don't see a name with your comment at all (yours or 'anonymous'), the creator of the padlet has turned comment attribution off for the padlet.
Why aren't my comments saving?
When leaving a comment, make sure you press Enter or click the Send icon (➡). If you click outside the comment box, your work will unfortunately not be saved. One way to be sure your comment is submitted is to check for a timestamp which will appear next to it.
Can I restrict commenting to only some people?
The short answer is no. However, there is a workaround! If you want to stop collecting comments, you can turn them OFF once your desired comments have been added. Existing comments will stay, but new comments will not be added.
When will I see new comments?
New comments should appear in real time. If you need to refresh to see new comments, please contact us.
What is the character limit for comments?
Comments have a character limit of 10,000.
Are comments included when you export a board?
All aspects of a board are included in exports. However, if comment attribution is turned OFF, the names of the comment authors will not be included in the export.

I keep getting the error message, "Invalid file type - Sorry, the file you selected is not supported." What should I do?
Only images, videos and audio can be added to a comment. Other files and documents will need to be added as their own posts.
If comment attribution is hidden, will names still populate with notifications?
Attribution is hidden in email and mobile app notifications for new posts/comments and if a user mentions another user in a post/comment.

Attribution remains visible when a post is submitted and pending admin approval or when someone edits your comment on a post.
