How to add Padlet to Moodle LMS using LTI 1.0?
There are two different types of integrations for LMS available in Padlet, namely LTI 1.0 and LTI 1.3. For the LTI 1.0 tool, each Padlet board has to be added individually as an external tool in each individual assignment using ALL the steps below.
This article will describe how to connect Padlet to Moodle using LTI 1.0. If your Moodle version supports 1.3, you may use our new connector described in this article.
You will need:
- Access to teacher account on Moodle
- Access to teacher account on Padlet
- Edit Course
Click on the course you wish to add your Padlet in and select "Turn editing on".
- Add an activity or resource
Click on "+ Add an activity or resource" under the desired section
- Select External Tool
You can find "External tool" under All or Activities. A form should show up, under preconfigured tool, click on the "+" sign. There will be a new tab with another form.
We'll head back to Padlet and copy some details into this second form.
- Padlet details
Open the specific Padlet board you want to add on Moodle and click on Share. You should see the option to "Add to your LMS as an external tool". Go ahead and click on that. You'll be presented with some information that you'll need to copy and paste into Moodle.
- Fill in the form on Moodle
Padlet 1.0 (use a name that will help you easily identify it later)
Listed on Padlet as Consumer key
Listed on Padlet as Shared secret
Listed on Padlet as Custom parameters
Once done, click on Save and return to course or Save and display.
Here is a sample screenshot with filled fields.
The Padlet should show up like this on Moodle! If you want to add more Padlets to different courses, just run through the steps again.
If you've tried the LTI 1.0 connector before and have since updated Moodle or switched Moodle accounts and are trying to connect again using the same connector, you may hit an error that looks something like:
"We made a wrong turn. We've encountered an error and are working to fix it. Drive safe!".
This is probably because each Padlet Backpack account can only connect to one LTI 1.0 LMS account at any point in time. You may want to consider using LTI 1.3 for Moodle as that limitation does not exist in our LTI 1.3 integration. Otherwise, please contact us to reset your LTI 1.0 connection.
