How to add Padlet to Schoology LMS using LTI 1.3?

There are a few different ways to embed a padlet in an LMS. This article will describe how to connect Padlet to Schoology using LTI 1.3.

Set up LMS integration for Schoology (Admins)

You will need:

  • Administrator access on Schoology
  • Access to the owner account on Backpack
  1. Add Padlet app

From the Schoology administrator account, head to the App Center page and select the Padlet App.

Then click on Install LTI 1.3 App > I Agree > Continue > Add to Organization. This will bring you to the Organization Apps page, search for Padlet and click on Install/Remove.

Ensure that you check all the appropriate fields in the All Courses and All Groups sections so all users have access to the app.

  1. Add padlet to a Course

Navigate to Add Materials by clicking on Courses and selecting a course. Then click on Add Materials.

  1. Log in to Padlet

A pop up will appear requesting for the Backpack domain (ending in padlet.org) and log in credentials.

If you have a password assigned to your account, simply log in using your email and password.

If you've used Microsoft365 or Google SSO to log in, click on Log in with token. Head back to your Backpack account and open Settings, then click on Organisation Info and click on Create under LTI Link Deployment Token to generate a token in place of using SSO. Copy and paste the token code given into the Token field on the pop-up in Canvas.

Note: This will only be needed in the initial set-up.

  1. Select a Padlet Board

After logging in, select any padlet board by clicking on it. Once this is done, a pop up will appear to confirm the padlet you wish to add. Select any padlet board by clicking on it.

Padlet will now be available for teachers to add to a course.

Before proceeding, please ensure that your Schoology admin has allowed access for Padlet in the above instructions!
  1. Add padlet to a Course

Navigate to Add Materials by clicking on Courses and selecting a course. Then click on Add Materials.

You may also choose to add padlet to an assignment by clicking on Add Materials > Add Assignment > Insert Content.

After selecting the Padlet tool, a pop-up should appear. Select any padlet board by clicking on it.

The padlet should now be added to your course like this on Schoology!

Additional sharing options

If you want students to work on their own copy of the Padlet, toggle the 'Create a copy for each user' option. Students will get their own copy when they click on the link in the assignment and you will be automatically added as a shared member to the padlet.

Note that turning on the copy option will prevent you from seeing all student posts in a single padlet.
