How do I update my account settings?

Updating the essentials of your account is easy! Need to change your avatar? Forgot your password (again)? We've done it, we get it, and we're here for you. Here are some simple steps, quick fixes and a few tips to help you personalize your Padlet profile like a pro.

❗️STUDENTS❗️: Users with a Student role within a Padlet for Schools account can no longer update their own information. Students will need to reach out to the Owner/Admin to have their avatar, name, email and/or username updated.
💡 Padlet for Schools Owners/Admins: You can update/edit user information for members of your school account from the Members page. Click here for more information!

Your account information can be found on the Basic info page in your Settings. To get there, log into your account >> click on your Settings cog icon in the upper-right corner of your dashboard >> select Personal account (at the top) >> select Basic info (located in the column on the left).

Update your avatar

Your avatar says a lot about you. In a sense, it's the face of your digital presence. So, while we can't help you change your physical face, we can help you change your avatar! 😉 Upload an image of your own or claim one of our homemade Little Monsters.

Upload an image

To upload your own image, follow these steps:

  1. From the Basic info page in your Settings, click on the current avatar (or the pencil icon on the right) to upload a new one.
Pick from uploading an image directly from your device, searching the web, drawing a self-portrait, or letting AI draw one for you (using our AI image feature).
  1. Save your changes!
Using the Padlet app?

Upload an image by tapping the three-dot ellipsis button (...) More at the bottom-right of the screen >> Tap Settings >> Basic info >> tap your current avatar to upload a new one.
Claim a Little Monster

Little Monsters are automatically generated avatars for every registered Padleteer. New users are assigned a Little Monster upon registration. If you haven't claimed yours, you can click here!

Update your e-mail address

To change the email address associated with your Padlet account, follow these steps:

  1. From your dashboard, click on the Settings cog icon in the upper-right corner
  2. Click Personal account (at the top) >> Basic info
  3. Click the current email address (or the pencil icon on the right) to change it
  4. You will be prompted to sign into your account (again) -- using your current sign-in method (to confirm ownership).
  5. Enter your new email address and click Continue
  6. Verify your email with a 6-digit code sent to the new email address. The email looks something like this:
The 6-digit code will expire 30 minutes after being sent. After 30 minutes, a new one will need to be requested by going through the steps again.

Update your username

Some of us outgrow our username from elementary school and feel the need to switch things up...become a bit more "professional," if you will. And some of us -- *ahem* me, -- embrace their uniqueness and relish in their childlike ways. 👋 Either way, we celebrate you!

To update your username, follow these steps:

  1. From your dashboard, click on the Settings cog icon in the upper-right corner
  2. Click Personal account (at the top) >> Basic info
  3. Click on the current username (or the pencil icon on the right) to update it
  4. Enter your desired username and click Save!

Update your password

To change the password for your account, follow the steps below:

  1. From your dashboard, click on the Settings cog icon in the upper-right of the page
  2. Click Personal account (at the top) >> Password
  3. Enter your current password in the top text box, your new password in the bottom text box, and click Update password
Can't remember your current password? Click Reset password by email. This will send a password reset link to the email address associated with your account. Check your spam folder if you don't see it within a few minutes.

Do note: The secure password reset link will expire after 24 hours. You'll need to request a new one after that time period has lapsed.

FAQs

Why can't I change my avatar/name/email/username?
Users with a Student role within a Padlet for Schools account will need to contact the Owner/Admin of the school account to edit any of this information. If you're not a student within a Padlet for Schools account, please reach out and let us know!
What is the recommended size for avatars?
The recommended size for your avatar is 196 x 196 px (or as close as you can get to a 1:1 aspect ratio).
Why didn't I receive the verification code in my email?
Please make sure you are checking the email address associated with the Padlet account. Then, check your spam/junk/promotions folder in case it ended up there. If you still do not see the email with the verification code after a couple of minutes, please Contact Us so we can help!
I keep getting an error message that says, "Sorry, your request could not be completed. Please try again." Why is this happening?
Typically, this is an easy fix! Just open the password reset link in an incognito/private browser window and try making your changes there.

For Windows users: Press Ctrl + Shift + n
For Mac users: Press Cmd + Shift + n
Why do I keep getting an error message when I try to update my username or email?
If you are unable to change your username or email address, it may be in use by another Padlet user.

For username changes in this case, we suggest adding a number sequence to the end of the desired username to make it more unique.
