How Slideshow works

Slideshow takes your existing board and turns it into a presentation. All you have to do is create a board and click the Slideshow button (▶️). So you can take a board that looks like this...

...and turn it into a presentation that looks like this!

The appearance of your presentation will match the appearance options in your board's Settings. Your wallpaper will determine the background and color scheme of your Slideshow, and the font you choose will be the font in the presentation. Also, the title, description, and icon you choose will become the title slide.

After the title slide, each post will become its own slide. If your board is grouped into sections, we will add each section header as its own slide.

When you open a board as a slideshow, we will automatically format your board into a presentation. Slideshow works across devices and will reformat based on the size of your screen. All attachments will be functional, so you can view YouTube videos and read PDFs directly from the slideshow.

We recommend using the Grid, Stream, or Timeline formats to help you easily identify the order of your posts. You can also use any format with sections for easy ordering.

Create a Slideshow

Add posts

To create a Slideshow, begin adding posts to your board. The posts on your padlet become each slide of your Slideshow. If you have documents or any other attachments uploaded to your post, they will be included on that slide when presenting your Slideshow.

For example purposes, let's pretend you want to create a Slideshow with photos only.

Add pictures by clicking the + button to create your post. Upload your pictures by clicking the appropriate attachment!

To only allow specific attachments in posts (such as photos, in our example), you can create custom Post fields so photos are the only attachment option available! Click here to read more!
  • Using a web browser on a PC: From your post composer, select the Upload button (for pictures saved to your computer) or Camera to take a picture with your webcam.
  • Using a browser on a mobile device: From your post composer, select the Upload button (for pictures saved to your mobile device or to take a photo). You can also select Camera to take a photo.
  • Mobile app: From your post composer, select the Camera button (to take a photo) or the Photo and Video Library button (the icon shown on the left below) to choose from pictures on your device.
Note about the mobile app: If the post composer does not show the Photo and Video Library button, custom Post fields may be enabled. To choose photos from your device in this case, close the post composer and click on the Settings cog icon (⚙️) at the top of your padlet >> Posts >> Post fields >> Attachment >> Custom >> toggle the button ON next to 'Photo and Video library.'

Toggling this ON must be done within the app for it to work. The file Upload button within the app is specifically for documents, not pictures.

Present your Slideshow

To turn your board into a slideshow, click the three-dot ellipsis button (...) and then click Slideshow. This will open your slideshow in a new tab.

If you are on a desktop, you can also click on the Slideshow button (▶️) in the action bar. This will open your slideshow in a new tab.

If you are still on your main dashboard, you can click the vertical three-dot ellipsis button (...) on the bottom corner of the board's thumbnail to open the menu. Then, click Open slideshow!

Finally, if you have the URL of a board, you can add /slideshow to the end of the URL to instantly open the board in slideshow view.

For example, the URL of the example board is https://padlet.com/ladyj1/my_first_slideshow. To view the example board as a slideshow, you can change the URL to https://padlet.com/ladyj1/my_first_slideshow/slideshow.

Once you are viewing a slideshow, you can navigate using the arrows at the bottom of the screen or the arrow keys on your keyboard.

You can also traverse your slideshow with the segmented navigation bar along the bottom of the slideshow screen. The segments of the navigation bar represent individual slides. When you select one of these segments you will traverse to that slide.

The nav bar on slideshows with many slides will not be segmented.
Autoplay

If you select the play button on the bottom left portion of your slideshow screen you will be able to autoplay your slideshow. The speed at which your slides will change can be determined from the menu that appears when you click the Auto button.

You are also able to toggle on Loop slides which will advance your slideshow to the first slide after the last.

The Auto setting will advance the slideshow depending on how much text is on your screen. This feature is designed to advance the slideshow at the speed it takes the average speaker to present the slides.

Share your slideshow

If you click the Share button, you will find all the ways to share and export your slideshow.

You can embed your slideshow in a different website or share the QR code by displaying it on the first slide!

FAQs

Can I change the order of my slides?
Yes! To change the order of your slides, return to your board and change the order of your posts by dragging and dropping them into your preferred order. This will rearrange the order of the slides in your slideshow. We recommend using the Grid, Stream, or Timeline formats to help you easily identify the order of your posts. You can also use any format with sections for easy ordering.
Can I change the font size or customize the layout of my slides?
No, you cannot change the font size or customize the layout of your slides. Unlike other presentation software, which forces you to choose every detail of your slides, Slideshow will automatically format your board into a beautiful presentation. If you need to control all creative elements of your presentation, you might consider a different product to make slides.
If I loop my Slideshow to play continuously, can new posts be added in real time?
Yes! If you (or other users) add posts to your padlet while the Slideshow is playing, the new posts will be added to it automatically. No need to refresh or exit and restart!
