Getting started
What devices are needed to access Padlet? Do I need an account? How do I get started?
Padlet is accessible using most devices - including PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. Download the free Padlet app from the App Store or Google Play or go to padlet.com using a web browser.
Do I need an account?
Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't! It all depends on what your school or teacher requires. Take a look below to learn more!
Contributing to a padlet | How? |
Using your school account | If your school has provided you with a student license for Padlet, you will need to log into Padlet with that account by: 1. Navigating to your school's unique domain (i.e. https://padlet.com/thisismyschool) and logging in with the option chosen by the school's Padlet Admin OR 2. Accepting the invite link sent to you (via email) by your teacher Note: If you are unsure of your school's domain, please reach out to your teacher for more information. |
Using a free account | If your school has chosen not to provide student licenses but your teacher still requires you to have an account, sign up for a free account. Simply go to padlet.com and click Sign up. With a free account, you are limited to creating 3 padlets, but you can still collaborate on as many padlets as you'd like! |
No account / Contributing as a guest | If your school has chosen not to provide student licenses and your teacher does not require you to have an account of your own, you can still contribute to padlets! Just navigate to the padlet (from the link, QR code, etc. that has been given to you) and you will notice that a bar pops up on the top-right of the screen. This shows that you are contributing to Padlet as a guest. The assigned alias will be associated with your contributions. |
What does a padlet look like?
Padlets can look different depending on the board style your teacher chooses. Some formats are neatly spaced out and broken up into their own sections but there are also options for Timelines (great for History class) and Maps!

You can see the different format options and what they look like here: Padlet formats
How do padlets work and how can I contribute?
Not all padlets are the same. All padlets are fully customizable by your teacher. So, while some padlets will allow you to contribute, some may only allow you to view them. Your teacher determines the level of access available to you.
How do I add a post?
If your teacher has allowed posts created by students, you will see a plus (+) button in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Click or tap the plus (+) button. This opens the post composer.
- Type your post and/or add an attachment option
- Once you're finished, click Publish!
How do I comment on a post?
If comments are enabled, you can comment on others' posts! Just follow these steps:
- Navigate to the bottom of the post to find the comment box.
This may look different depending on the layout of the padlet. Just look for the chat bubble or the 'Add comment' field under the post.
![]() | ![]() |
- Type your comment in the 'Add comment' field and press Comment (or the pink arrow button ➡️) to post it.
If you're feeling extra creative, add something fun (like a GIF or an image) by pressing the plus (+) button next to the comment field.
No timestamp? It's not saved and will disappear when you navigate away from the page. Press the Comment button or the pink arrow button (➡️) to save it.
How do I find a padlet?
If your teacher shared a padlet link or QR code with you, use those to navigate to the padlet! If not, and you have an account, log in and go to your dashboard.
Your dashboard is where you'll see padlets you've opened before, padlets shared with you or ones you've created yourself!
On the left-hand side of your dashboard, you'll see folders that also contain padlets!

- Recents: Once you visit a padlet, you can find these padlets in your Recents folder for up to 30 days.
- All padlets: All padlets made available to the organization can be found here. Note that you may not see every padlet created within the school account. This is due to the padlet's privacy settings maintained by the creator.
- Made by me: Padlets you have personally created
Can I make my own padlet?
If your school allows it, you can create padlets yourself! Use this guide for tips on creating padlets of your own or jump right in by clicking the + Make button at the top of your dashboard!
