How do I ask Padlet MCP for Admin Analytics?

Need numbers the Admin Dashboard doesn't slice the way you want? Connect Padlet MCP to an AI assistant and ask for school, classroom, or team analytics in plain language — or call the organization analytics API yourself.

For the full REST reference (metrics catalog, request shapes, and error codes), see Read organization analytics on docs.padlet.dev.

Who this is for

This article is for:

  • Owners and admins on Padlet for Schools or Team accounts
  • Owners and teachers on Classroom accounts

You do not need to write code to use the MCP path. The API path is optional for power users who already work with the Public API.

What you already have

Your organization's Analytics page in Settings already shows curated tabs for the current billing period. Schools and classrooms get Overview, Usage, Impact, Safety, Top users, and All users. Teams get General, Padlets, and Users.

Use the dashboard when you want a quick visual snapshot. Use MCP or the API when you need a custom slice the tabs do not answer as cleanly.

What MCP / API adds

The dashboard is curated tabs. MCP and the API let you ask for exactly the slice you need:

  • Plain-language questions in your AI client ("which teachers were inactive last billing period?")
  • Custom mixes of engagement, membership, and content-safety metrics
  • Monthly series across a date range
  • Role slices (teachers vs students, makers vs contributors)
  • Top padlets, top users, and top media ranked the way you ask
  • Answers you can paste into a QBR or renewal deck
Content-safety metrics (scanned items, flagged items, catch rate) are available for schools and classrooms only. Asking for them on a Team organization returns an error, not a zero.

Quick start with Padlet MCP

Connect Padlet MCP in your AI client. Use the server URL https://mcp.padlet.com. Full set-up steps are in Padlet MCP Server.

  1. Sign in and authorize as an admin of the organization you want to query. On a Classroom, a teacher can also pull analytics.
  2. Ask in plain language. You do not need to name internal tools. Tell the AI assistant what you want to know about your school, classroom, or team, and it will use Padlet MCP on your behalf.

Here's an example:

If a particular MCP client does not show analytics answers yet, try another MCP-compatible client, or use the organization analytics API instead. Client support can lag behind the server.
Your assistant acts as you. It can only pull analytics your signed-in account is allowed to see.

Optional: organization analytics API

Prefer to script it yourself? Use the Public API with an admin API key (or a teacher key on a Classroom).

  1. Create or copy an API key from the Developer page in your Settings. Details are in the Public API article.
  2. Find your organization id with GET /me?include=organizations. You want a wksp_ id — org_ organizations on padlet.org are not supported for this endpoint yet.
  3. Send a POST to /organizations/{org_id}/analytics with the metrics you want.
  4. If the response is 202 or meta.pending is non-empty, wait for Retry-After and send the identical request again. Analytics are computed asynchronously — a pending metric is absent, not zero. Never treat pending as zero.
Full request shapes, the metrics catalog, and worked examples live in Read organization analytics.

Pilot access

Organization analytics via MCP and the API is opt-in while in pilot. Padlet enrolls the organization owner — being an admin alone is not enough. Until your org is enrolled, every call answers 404 (the same response as an unknown organization).

Only wksp_ organizations are supported for now.

Contact support and ask them to enroll your organization owner for admin analytics.

Example prompts

These are starters you can paste into your MCP client. Adjust the wording to match your school, classroom, or team — and verify the numbers against the Analytics page when you are preparing a customer-facing deck.

  • "For our school this billing period, how many active teachers vs licenses, and which months dipped?"
  • "Which organisation padlets have the most views? Give me the top 3 boards/sandbox."
  • "Which members with a teacher role have not used Padlet in the last 12 months?"
  • "How many members don't have the email domain <ouremaildomain.edu>?"
Ask for the slice you need: a monthly series, a role filter, top padlets by posts or visitors, or content-safety totals for a school or classroom. The assistant will map your question to the available metrics.

What the dashboard still does better

Stick with the Analytics page in Settings when you want:

  • The visual Overview banner, Top opportunity callouts, and one-click PD request
  • The All users / Users table with search, role filters, and a one-click CSV download
  • A view that does not need pilot enrollment — the Settings page itself is available to eligible roles without an API opt-in

MCP and the API shine when the curated tabs do not answer the exact question you need for a demo or renewal conversation.

Limits and gotchas

  • Rate limit: 60 requests per hour per API key and organization, including polls after a 202
  • Date range: at most 24 months in one request
  • Content safety: school and classroom only — Teams get a 400 for those metrics
  • Membership counts: reflect the current roster, not a historical snapshot of who belonged at the time
  • Pending ≠ zero: a metric still computing is missing from the response; do not treat it as zero
  • Org type: wksp_ only for now

FAQs

Why do I get a 404 when I ask for analytics?

While the endpoint is in pilot, every denial looks the same: not enrolled, unknown organization, or no access all return 404. Confirm you signed in as an admin (or teacher on a Classroom), that your org is a wksp_ organization, and that Padlet has enrolled the organization owner. Contact support to request enrollment.

Do I need to write code?

No. Connect Padlet MCP, sign in as an admin, and ask in plain language. The API path is optional for developers and power users who already use the Public API.

Is this the same as the Public API?

Related, but not the same product surface. The Public API is for developers using an API key. Padlet MCP is for AI assistants you authorize by logging in. Both can reach organization analytics once your org is enrolled; you can use either or both.

Can students or non-admins see organization analytics this way?

No. Analytics require an admin of the organization, or a teacher on a Classroom. The assistant has exactly the same access as the account you signed in with — nothing more.

My MCP client doesn't seem to know about analytics. What should I try?

Some clients update their tool list on a delay. Try reconnecting Padlet MCP, switching to another MCP-compatible client, or using the organization analytics API directly. If you are still blocked after enrollment, reach out to us.

Will there be a blog post about this too?

Maybe. This helpdoc is the how-to for admins and AMs. If a companion piece goes up on padlet.com, we'll link it from here.
